Root Canal Treatment in Tweed Heads
If you’re experiencing tooth pain or discomfort, it’s possible that you may need root canal treatment. A root canal is a method of treating a tooth that has some sort of nerve damage, whether it’s inflamed or necrotic.
What to Expect
If you’re experiencing tooth pain or discomfort, it’s important to seek dental care immediately. Symptoms that may suggest you have an issue with your tooth’s nerve include toothaches, sensitivity to hot or cold, radiating pain, and pain upon application of pressure.
When you come in for your initial appointment, we will run through a general process to determine if root canal treatment is necessary. If it’s determined that you need root canal treatment, we will typically perform an emergency stage root canal to alleviate your initial pain. This involves cleaning the bacteria that’s inside the tooth and placing medicine to relieve the pain.
We will then schedule further appointments to complete the root canal treatment, which are typically done in two or three appointments, depending on the severity of the issue. If the root canal is successful and the tooth is asymptomatic, you may eventually need to put a ceramic crown on top to protect it from heavy functional forces. It’s important to note that root canal-treated teeth will go black over time, so a ceramic crown can also help with aesthetics.
How Long Will It Last?
It’s impossible to predict with certainty, as it depends on several factors. If the root canal is done well, and there are no symptoms, it can last for many years. At our dental practice, we are committed to providing our patients with the highest quality care, and will always do our best to ensure your results last as long as possible.
